Purpose

This area protects a diversity of interrelated habitats including mangroves and seagrass beds that provide refuge for juvenile fish and invertebrates, as well as coral reefs that support the adults that migrate out to the nursery habitats.

Regulations Summary

Restrictions

Except under a permit or specific authorization of the Commissioner, it is unlawful to:
1. Take, possess, or remove any bird, fish or other wildlife, or part thereof;
2. Use or possess any firearm, bow and arrow, or any trap or other contrivance designed to be, or capable of being, used to take birds, fish or other wildlife, or to discharge any firearm or release any arrow into any wildlife or marine sanctuary;
3. Throw, place, or deposit any waste within any wildlife or marine sanctuary.

Allowed

1. Scientific collecting in support of and for use in a research project with an approved protocol is allowed.
2. The use of a castnet with a minimum square mesh size of one-quarter inch to capture baitfish (fry) within fifty feet of the shoreline, except for Cow and Calf rocks, is allowed.
3. Fishing with hook and line is allowed with a permit.
