Purpose
To preserve, protect, and manage the State's natural, cultural, and historical resources while providing outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors. Grand Isle serves as a breakwater between the Gulf and the network of inland channels that connect to the bayou tributaries of the Mississippi River and is recognized as one of the most important stopover sites for migratory birds flying across the Gulf on their annual migration to and from North America.

Regulations Summary
Restrictions
1. All wildlife, including reptiles and amphibians, is under strict protection and must not be hunted, molested, disturbed, trapped, destroyed, fed or removed, except for scientific or management purposes when approved by the assistant secretary.
2 A person fishing on Office of State Park property must adhere to all state and federal laws and criteria regarding fresh and/or salt water fishing.
3. The taking of fish by nets, traps or any means other than hook or line is prohibited, except for management purposes as authorized by special permit.
4. Swimming is prohibited at all beach parks between sunset and sunrise. Swimming is permitted only in designated areas, and at the swimmer's own risk.
5. All watercraft located on or adjacent to any site must be operated in a careful and reasonable manner, and such operation is subject to the rules of safety imposed by the laws of Louisiana and by the United States Coast Guard.
5. CWatercraft shall be launched only from designated boat ramps or launching areas.
6. No watercraft may be operated in a designated swimming area or in any other area designated as a non-boating area by signs or any area otherwise restricted from boat operation or docking.
7. Commercial boats (defined as any watercraft capable of carrying five or more persons for hire; any watercraft having a water displacement of five tons or more, whatever the length; or any watercraft from which commercial activities are conducted, e.g., shrimping, crabbing, fishing, etc.) are prohibited from using any Office of State Park facility without the written consent of the assistant secretary.
8. Water bodies or portions thereof adjacent to boat ramps, docks, swimming areas, boathouses, cabins, picnic pavilions, or other facilities shall be designated no wake areas. Signs and/or buoys will mark the areas so designated.
9. Water skiing and related activities such as wake boarding, knee boarding, tubing, and banana rides are permitted only in designated areas, and at the participants' own risk.
Allowed
Notwithstanding the prohibitions in the Restrictions section, the taking of flounder by gigs is allowed.
