To reserve this area for the undisturbed development of nature.

Regulations Summary

Restrictions

1. It is not permitted to enter or navigate Protection Zone 1.
2. it is prohibited to run aground with watercraft in the General Protection Areas or in the Special Protection Areas, unless a permit zone has been designated.

Allowed

A. Owners and authorized users, as well as their agents and persons authorized by the competent authorities, are exempt from the entry and navigation ban.
B. In Protection Zone 1, the following measures and uses are permitted, in addition to those permitted throughout the National Park:
1. entering the coastal mudflats on the mainland coast, around the islands and Halligen islands of Oland, Langeneß, Gröde, Hooge and Nordstrandischmoor, including for the purpose of swimming, as well as for non-commercial fishing in an area approved by the authority responsible for the National Park in consultation with the affected municipalities; beyond this area, routes for mudflat hikes can be established by the authority responsible for the National Park upon proposal from the municipalities or in consultation with the affected municipalities;
2. commercial fishing for fish and crabs in the same manner and to the same extent as before, except in the off-limits area, as well as fishing for mussels within the scope of a permit; Fishing must be guided by the conservation purpose of the national park;
3. Non-commercial fishing outside the area specified in number 1 by boat, whereby the use of beam trawls requires a permit from the Higher Fisheries Authority in agreement with the authority responsible for the national park;
4. Horseback riding, carriage driving, and bicycle riding in areas approved by the authority responsible for the national park;
5. Stepping stones for canoeists in areas approved by the authority responsible for the national park.
C. The following exceptions and exemptions apply to the navigation restrictions:
(1) The prohibitions on running aground and navigation do not apply to navigation for the following:
1. the performance of sovereign tasks, if this is necessary for their fulfillment,
2. the monitoring and repair of pipelines and cables after timely notification to the locally competent electricity and shipping police authority,
3. maritime rescue operations,
4. research purposes of state research institutions of the Federal Government, the states or a Member State of the European Union,
5. the lawful exercise of commercial fishing, and
6. in the event of distress at sea or to avoid other dangers to life and limb.
(2) The speed limits do not apply to navigation for the following:
1. the performance of sovereign tasks, if this is necessary for their fulfillment,
2. maritime rescue operations,
3. in the event of distress at sea or to avoid other dangers to life and limb.
