Purpose

To reduce harmful fisheries subsidies, a key factor in the widespread depletion of the world’s fish stocks.

Restrictions

WTO policies apply to WTO Member States, which can found here.

Member States shall not:
1. grant or maintain any subsidy to a vessel or operator engaged in illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing or fishing related activities in support of IUU fishing.
2. grant or maintain subsidies for fishing or fishing related activities regarding an overfished stock.
3. grant or maintain subsidies provided to fishing or fishing related activities outside of the jurisdiction of a coastal Member or a coastal non-Member and outside the competence of a relevant RFMO/A.
