Purpose
These rocky islets serve as nesting sites for seabirds, and beneath the surface, between the rocks, various species of groupers and giant crabs find refuge. The Rosh HaNikra Islands, also known as Iyye Rosh Ha-Niqra (איי ראש הנקרה), are a group of three small, uninhabited islands—Shahaf, Nahalieli, and T’chelet—situated approximately 800 meters off the Mediterranean coast near Rosh HaNikra in northern Israel. These islands are part of the Rosh Hanikra-Achziv Marine Nature Reserve, Israel’s largest marine protected area, which spans about 7 kilometers along the shoreline and extends roughly 15 kilometers into the sea.
Species of Concern: Monk Seal (Monachus monachus); Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas); Gulls (Laridae); Ghost Crab (Ocypode cursor); Sea Snails (Gastropoda); Seagull (Larus); Yellow legged gull (Larus michahellis); Great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo)
