Purpose

The University of Washington owns and maintains a series of biological preserves in the San Juan Islands in Washington. The overarching goals for the five preserves are to maintain and restore native biodiversity and ecosystem function as well as to facilitate education and research that is consistent with nature preservation. The Friday Harbor Marine Reserve is the second largest WDFW marine reserve in the inland marine waters of Washington, and the site contains a variety of habitats which host many species.

Restrictions

Closed to the take of food fish, with exceptions, and shellfish.

Allowed

Take of salmon and herring is permitted. All take of marine life must conform to regulations regarding species allowed, size limitations, catch limits, method of capture, and seasons.
