Purpose
Marine gardens are specially protected areas in which it is illegal to collect marine invertebrates or plants, with the seven gardens in Oregon established as educational and recreational areas for visitors to learn more about intertidal ecosystems. Encompassing the entire shoreline of Yachats State Park, the marine garden is abundant with shellfish and other tide pool creatures, as well as providing seabird nesting and harbor seal haulout areas.

Regulations Summary
Restrictions
1. It is unlawful to take shellfish and invertebrates, including sea urchins or California sea cucumbers, for commercial purposes.
2. A person may not pick, cut, mutilate, trim, uproot, remove or attempt to take or possess any living or non-living plants.
This area includes all rock areas, tide pools, and sandy beaches between extreme high and low tides located between the north and south boundaries of Yachats State Park.
Allowed
Sport fishing is allowed, subject to Oregon fishing regulations. Single mussels may be taken for bait.
Permitted fishing is subject to license, minimum size and maximum catch limits, method of fishing, seasons and closures, as described in the Oregon Sport Fishing regulations.
