Essential fish habitat (EFH) is defined as those waters and substrate necessary to fish for spawning, breeding, feeding, or growth to maturity. Specifically, this area protects vulnerable groundfish.

Vessels may transit through, with or without groundfish on board, with all prohibited gear stowed. Fishing with other gear may be permitted subject to state and federal regulations, take is limited to permitted species and is subject to catch limits and periodic area closures.
