Purpose

The Cabrillo National Monument rests protected on 160 acres at the southernmost tip of the Point Loma Peninsula, which is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west, San Diego Bay on the east, and urban development in the north. It commemorates the landing of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542. The rocky intertidal zone on the western side hosts flowery anemones, elusive octopi, spongy deadman's fingers, and a myriad of other creatures.
