Purpose

To preserve natural processes and habitats along with their components. On land, this zone includes the largest part of the Park, except for settlements, infrastructure, agricultural areas, and localities of the Ia strict protection zone. At sea, this zone includes six localities. On the south side of Mljet National Park, these are the localities of Vranji škoj, Zakamenica, and Štit, and on the north side, these are the western part of the island Glavat, Zaobraslo prijeslo – Veliki and Mali Maslinovac, and Ovrata.

Regulations Summary

Restrictions

No interventions in the space (except in exceptional circumstances) or any modification of the space are allowed. Swimming, agriculture, recreational fishing, anchoring, and grazing are not allowed. SCUBA diving and visiting are regulated.

Allowed

This zone includes high-value areas where only scientific research and monitoring are allowed, as well as visits with the guidance of a park expert or a concessionaire under the supervision of the park authority. Navigation is allowed.
