Restrictions

1. The capture and retention on board of the following species: Thornback Ray (Alitán), Common Stingray (Pastinaca., Thorny Skate (Pastinaca espinosa., Blue Shark (Tintorera., Tope Shark (Cazón), Eagle Ray (Águila marina., Monkfish (Pez obispo), Guitarfish (Tiburones guitarra., Common Torpedo (Tremolina común), Smoothhounds (Musolas), Lesser Moray (Moreneta., Blenny (Cieguito), Needlefish (Alfiler), River Garfish (Agujas de río), Hound Needlefish (aguja mula., Meagre (Corvina., Mediterranean Spider Crab (Centollo mediterráneo), Flat Ocellated Top Shell (Peonza plana), Musky Octopus (Pulpo patudo).
2. Fishing using live fish as bait is prohibited.
3. In the entire marine reserve, underwater fishing competitions are expressly prohibited. Additionally, sport fishing championships that are held must be in the catch-and-release modality and require authorization from the Directorate General of Fisheries. Fishing competitions that cause fish to die are not allowed.
4. Divers, whether using scuba or free diving, are prohibited from carrying any type of instrument that can be used for underwater fishing or extracting marine species (except for the safety knife).
5. Feeding the species is prohibited.
6. The extraction of sands, organisms, or any other material from the seabed is absolutely prohibited.

Allowed

1. Professional fishing of minor gear is allowed except in the special protection zone. Within the reserve, the boats mainly work under the guilds of Santanyí and the Colonia de San Jordi. Professional fishing with minor gear and/or shellfishing from a vessel can only be practiced with the following gear and equipment:
a) Small gear: Gillnets, Trammel nets, Nets for catching red mullet, Nets for catching caramel.
b) Stop nets: Solta, Almadraba, Moruna.
c) Other gear: Llampuguera, Longline, Fluixa, Bottom trolling, Hand line, Squid jig, Lobster pot, Octopus pot.
d) Trawling can be conducted at depths greater than 50 meters. Only boats registered with the Fishermen's Guild of Santanyí are authorized. These boats must carry a blue box or another equivalent control system. There is a closed season for trawling from August 1st to September 30th, and two reduced hours periods from July 1st to 31st and October 1st to 31st, during which trawling is only allowed between 5:30 am and 9:00 am.
2. Recreational fishing and shellfishing are generally permitted and must be carried out under the following conditions:
a) General Rules for All Fishing Methods:
- Fishing using live fish as bait is prohibited.
- The hooks for the hand line must have an aperture greater than 7 mm (bend), except for fishing raor which must be greater than 5.7 mm.
- A catch limit of one specimen per day per fisherman is established for these species: European Seabass, Brown Meagre, Grouper, Mottled Grouper, Green Wrasse, Brown Wrasse, Zebra Seabream, Gilthead Seabream, John Dory, Common Dentex, Red Scorpionfish. This list may be modified by order of the Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Territory.
b) Coastal Fishing can be practiced every day except in the special protection zone where it is not allowed. Permitted gear and methods: hand line or rod (with or without reel) with a maximum of 6 hooks, squid jig, spear (day fishing only), landing net, and specific gear for catching puu (rope, “bou” and “baveró”). Traditional gear such as cast net, morenell and llencetes may also be authorized.
c) Boat Fishing can be practiced every day except in the protection zone and the closed area. Permitted gear and methods: bottom trolling, fluixa, squid jig with a maximum of one line with two squid jigs per fisherman, hand line or rod (with or without reel) with a maximum of one line per person and a maximum of four hooks, and essential tools to bring the catches aboard, such as a landing net.
- A specific three-year authorization is required for boat fishing. The authorization can be requested online through the following process: boat fishing authorization.
- For monitoring fishing activity and the evolution of marine resources, authorized boat owners must keep a record of their catches. This can be done by downloading the catch records or using the Recreational Fishing Diary mobile app. Not presenting the catch record will result in the loss of the license. d) Underwater fishing Can be practiced on Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, and is allowed except in the following zones:
- Special protection zone
- Recreational fishing closed area
- Marine area of the Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos Maritime-Terrestrial Natural Park
An individual specific authorization, valid for one year, is required for underwater fishing. Underwater fishermen must report their catches to the Directorate General.
3. Diving with scuba gear is allowed except in the special protection area. An individual or collective permit issued by the competent authority is required. Free diving is unrestricted throughout the marine reserve.
