Purpose

To provide for the conservation of the areas of the marine park within the zone; and to provide opportunities for reasonable use and enjoyment, including, for example, limited extractive use, of the areas.

Species of Concern: corals, dugong, humpback whale, Australian snubfin dolphin, Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, helmet shell, triton shell, tridacnid clam, seahorse, pipefish, sea dragon, potato cod, Queensland grouper, barramundi cod, Maori wrasse, groupers, whale shark, grey nurse shark, great white shark, freshwater sawfish, green sawfish, sea snakes, crocodiles, green sea turtle, loggerhead sea turtle, hawksbill sea turtle, flatback turtle, olive ridley sea turtle, leatherback sea turtle

Regulations Summary

Restrictions

A person who is a commercial fisher who enters or uses an area for the purpose of bait netting must not take or possess a relevant fish while bait netting. A commercial fisher does not take a relevant fish while bait netting if the fish is taken unintentionally; and the fisher does not allow the net containing the fish to be out of the water other than to immediately remove the fish from the net; and the fisher immediately releases the fish into water deep enough to allow the fish to escape.

Allowed

1. A person may enter or use an area within the conservation park zone without permission for:
a) the purposes laid out in the individual subzones;
b)oyster gathering.
2. Also, a person may enter or use, without permission, a conservation park line fishing area for limited line fishing.
