Purpose
To protect and conserve Queensland's tidal lands and waters along the length of the Great Barrier Reef, supporting the reef's unique biodiversity while enabling sustainable use and access. The park complements the Commonwealth Great Barrier Reef Marine Park through a coordinated zoning system and provides additional protection for estuarine and mangrove areas, contributing to the comprehensive management of this globally significant ecosystem.
