Purpose
To describe and maintain the ecological character of the wetland; and to formulate and implement planning that promotes conservation of the wetland and wise and sustainable use of the wetland for the benefit of humanity in a way that is compatible with maintenance of the natural properties of the ecosystem. The site contains over 13,000 hectares of seagrass beds that are considered to be some of the most extensive on Australia's east coast. It supports diverse, extensive and relatively undisturbed wetland systems including subtidal beds, shallow marine waters, coral reefs, intertidal marshes, and also forests, peatlands, freshwater marshes and pools, sinkholes and springs.
Species of Concern: green sea turtle, dugong, humpback whale, loggerhead sea turtle, hawksbill sea turtle, grey-tailed tattler, bar-tailed godwit, eastern curlew, whimbrel, terek sandpiper, australian pied oystercatcher

Restrictions
A person must not take an action that:
(a) has or will have a significant impact on the ecological character of the wetland; or
(b) is likely to have a significant impact on the ecological character of the wetland.
