Purpose

To provide the highest level of protection for biodiversity and natural and cultural features. This zone protects a range of biological communities not recorded from the Lord Howe Island shelf, including fish and invertebrates which live on the slopes of the sea-mount that descend to over 2 kilometres deep.

Regulations Summary

Restrictions

1. All forms of fishing and collecting are prohibited.
2. Vessels are prohibited from anchoring.
3. Personal motorised watercraft (jet skis) use is prohibited.
4. Seawater that is obtained for ballast from outside the marine park may not be discharged within the park. Vessels intending to discharge will be required to exchange or appropriately treat ballast water before entering the park.
5. Commercial collection for the aquarium trade is prohibited.

Recreational collecting of aquarium specimens is allowed with a permit.
