Purpose

To protect the archipelago's reef, neritic, and pelagic ecosystems, as well as the genetic resources and the evolutionary processes that are carried out in them. This area is representative of the zoogeographic region of the Mexican Pacific. Human activities are strictly regulated in order to protect bird feeding and breeding areas, marine mammal feeding and breeding areas, sea turtle nesting beaches, coral growth. The marine flora that inhabits the archipelago is important because it is located in a transition region where organisms originating from the Indo-Pacific, the Gulf of California, and the Mexican Pacific converge.

Restrictions

The following activities are prohibited:
1. Aquaculture.
2. Feeding or disturbing native marine flora and fauna species.
3. Exploitation of marine flora and fauna species.
4. Any source of light or noise pollution that may affect wildlife, except for necessary administrative, management, and surveillance activities, as well as scientific activities requiring it.
5. Destruction of feeding, refuge, or breeding sites of marine species.
6. Use of trawling methods and other invasive techniques.
7. Establishment of infrastructure except for the assurance of the Protected Natural Area ecosystems.
8. Mining exploration and exploitation.
9. Anchoring of vessels without authorization.
10. Introduction of exotic species, including invasive ones.
11. Transit navigation, except for the administration and management of the Protected Natural Area.
12. Fishing.
13. Tourism.
14. Dumping or discharging waste or any other harmful material into the sea, as well as engaging.

Allowed

1. Population control and eradication of exotic and invasive species.
2. Establishment of infrastructure for the assurance of the Protected Natural Area ecosystems.
3. Filming, photography activities, capturing images, and sounds for scientific, cultural, or educational purposes.
4. Scientific research and environmental monitoring, including autonomous and free diving, filming, photography activities, capturing images, and sounds.
5. Navigation and mooring of vessels for the administration and management of the Protected Natural Area, scientific research, and monitoring.
6. Habitat restoration.
