Purpose

The site contains an important representation of ecosystems of deep reefs, escarpments, underwater canyons and sand cascades, considered deep sites of high potential diversity. It is known that there is a high species richness of deep-sea corals, they offer a place of refuge and reproduction for a large number of marine fish species of great commercial interest.

Species of Concern: snappers (Lutjanus analis, Lutjanus griseus , Lutjanus synagris and Lutjanus apodus), crustaceans (Brachycarpus biunguiculatus, Periclimenes iridescens, Alpheus amblyonyx, Automate evermanni, Synalpeus brooksi, Synalpeus paraneptunus, Synalpeus rathbunae, Janicea antiguensis, Trachycharis restrictus, Processa profound, Processa vicina), mojarras (Gerres cinereus), haddock (Mycteroperca bonaci), deep-sea lobster (Nephropsis aculeata), Caribbean spiny lobster (Panulirus argus)

Restrictions

The following is prohibited:
1. Opening material banks and extracting materials for construction, including sand
2. Altering or destroying by any means or action the feeding, nesting, shelter, or reproduction sites of wildlife species
3. Capturing, removing, extracting, retaining, or appropriating wildlife, except for scientific collection and research, environmental monitoring, and promotion fishing
4. Placement and installation of artificial reefs and habitats
5. Construction of infrastructure
6. Sand extraction
7. Introducing exotic species, including invasive ones
8. Commercial fishing
9. Removing or altering the seabed or causing suspension of sediments
10. Tourism
11. Using explosives or any other substance that may cause alteration to ecosystems
12. Dumping or discharging contaminants, as well as carrying out any contaminating activity.

The following is allowed:
1. Scientific collection of wildlife specimens
2. Filming, photography activities, and capturing images or sounds
3. Scientific research
4. Environmental monitoring
5. Promotion fishing.
