Purpose

Rationale for the creation of protected areas and its significance:
1. implementation of the protection of territories (water areas) in order to preserve biological diversity and maintain protected natural complexes and objects in their natural state;
2. organization and conduct of scientific research, including the maintenance of the Chronicle of Nature;
3. implementation of environmental monitoring;
4. environmental education;
5. assistance in the training of scientific personnel and specialists in the field of environmental protection.

In accordance with the Ramsar Convention, the reserve is classified as a wetland of international importance. This is due to the fact that the Belomoro-Baltic spring-autumn migration route of birds passes here and there is a traditional, used for centuries, bird stop on the way of their flight.
