Purpose

To protect, restore, sustain and enhance biodiversity and landscape; provide for resilience-based food security through provision of subsistence uses while ensuring sustainable supply; provide for and enhance eco-tourism and visitor recreation opportunities; support and improve community based co-management approaches; maintain essential ecological services; adapt terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems to climate change; and provide secure habitat for wildlife and fish resources.

Regulations Summary

Restrictions

The following activities are prohibited:
1. Fishing;
2. Collection of shrimp fry;
3. Use of poison and explosives;
4. Dewatering of khals or bailing out water in a canal;
5. Overnight stays;
6. Establish or undertake any industrial operation;
7. Harvest, destroy or collect any plant;
8. Set any kind of fire;
9. Enter into a sanctuary with any weapon without permission;
10. Disturb or threat any wildlife;
11. Use chemicals, explosives or any other weapon or substances which may destroy wildlife habitat;
12. Introduce any exotic animal or plant;
13. Introduce any domestic animal or allow any domestic animal to stray;
14. Dump any materials detrimental to wildlife;
15. Explore or dig for extraction of minerals;
16. Fell any plant or part thereof except silvicultural operations required for natural regeneration of plants;
17. Divert, stop or pollute watercourse;
18. Introduce any alien and invasive plant species;
19. Enter or reside in a sanctuary.

The following activities are allowed with permission:
1. Water-based tourism in the main rivers;
2. Enter with a weapon;
3. Enter or reside;
4. Study or investigate regarding relevant and helpful subject matters on wildlife;
5. Photography;
6. Research;
7. Ecotourism;
8. Cultivate, extract, manufacture, rear, export or import any wild animal or part of its body, meat, trophy, uncured trophy or any plant mentioned in schedule IV, or hunt any wild animal
