Purpose
To conserve Nijhum Dwip National Park and its threatened species through climate-resilient natural resources management and diversified livelihoods.
Species of Concern: hilsa shed, goby, irrawaddy dolphin, finless porpoise, Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, Ganges river dolphin, spoon-billed sandpiper, asian dowitcher, great knot, Indian skimmer, spotted greenshank, shark, ray, marine turtle
Regulations Summary
Restrictions
The following activities are prohibited:
1. Illegal resource extraction;
2. Poaching;
3. Accessing migratory bird conservation zones for purposes other than research and costal protection;
4. Access eco-tourism development areas for purposes other than research, coastal protection, and tourism;
5. Establish or undertake any industrial operation;
6. Harvest, destroy or collect any plant;
7. Set any kind of fire;
8. Enter into a sanctuary with any weapon without permission;
9. Disturb or threat any wildlife;
10. Use chemicals, explosives or any other weapon or substances which may destroy wildlife habitat;
11. Introduce any exotic animal or plant;
12. Introduce any domestic animal or allow any domestic animal to stray;
13. Dump any materials detrimental to wildlife;
14. Explore or dig for extraction of minerals;
15. Fell any plant or part thereof except silvicultural operations required for natural regeneration of plants;
16. Divert, stop or pollute watercourse;
17. Introduce any alien and invasive plant species;
18. Enter or reside in a sanctuary;
19. Kill a whale or dolphin mentioned in Schedule I or bird or migratory bird mentioned in Schedule I and II;
20. Collect, acquire, pruchase, sell, or transport any trophy, uncured trophy, meat, parts of the body of whale or dolphin mentioned in Schedule I or a bird or migratory bird mentioned in Schedule I and II of the Act.
Allowed
The following activities are allowed:
1. In the Fishing Zone, resource use with permission from the Bangladesh Fisheries Department tourism, and fishing;
2. In the Migratory Bird Conservation Zone, research and coastal protection;
3. In the Eco-tourism Development Zone, research, tourism, and coastal protection;
4. Fishing is allowed with permission from the Bangladesh Fisheries Department (Hilsha fishing (May - Oct), goby fishing (Jan - Apr, Nov - Dec), shrimp postlarvae collection (Mar - Jul, Nov - Dec), crab collection (Jan - Mar), bombay duck, mullet, ribbonfish catfish, and sharks (various))
