Purpose

To preserve marine resources for their sustainable use. Regulated fishing zones ensure the conservation of resources, the repopulation of the lagoon, and the diversification of species.

Regulations Summary

Restrictions

1. All fishing, of any species, is prohibited, with exceptions.
2. The keeping of all marine species in enclosures, fish ponds or pleasure parks is prohibited.

Allowed

The following types of fishing are exempt from the prohibition:
1. Line fishing (including trolling);
2. Spearfishing during the day;
3. Starfish (Acanthaster planci) collection and fishing campaigns, known in French Polynesia as “taramea”, organized by the management committee of the commune of Punaauia.
