Purpose

To provide for the protection and conservation of ecosystems, habitats and native species in as natural a state as possible.

Species of Concern: humpback whale, dwarf minke whale, toothed whales, sperm whale, dolphins, porpoises, green sea turtle, hawksbill sea turtle, loggerhead sea turtle, leatherback sea turtle, flatback sea turtle, olive ridley sea turtle, masked booby, red-footed booby, brwon booby, greater frigatebird, lesser frigatebird, red-tailed tropicbird, common noddy, black noddy, bridled tern, black-naped tern, wedge-tailed shearwater, crested tern, sooty tern, black marlin, tiger shark, white shark, scalloped hammerhead shark, Galapagos shark

Regulations Summary

Restrictions

1. Fishing is prohibited. Fishing gears or gear not specified in a class approval or activity licence as gear that may be used, as well as gear prohibited by a determination under r.12.34 of the EPBC Regulations, must be kept stowed and secured at all times during transit through, or while stopping and anchoring in, zones in which that gear is not allowed.
2. Aquaculture is prohibited.
3. Mining operations are prohibited.
4. Dredging and disposal of dredged material is prohibited.
5. Fish aggregation devices are prohibited.

Allowed

1. Recreational non-extractive use is allowed with authorization.
2. Anchoring is only allowed in anchoring areas determined under r.12.56 of the EPBC Regulations.
3. Commercial tours, excluding charter fishing tours, are allowed.
4. Recreational anchoring and transit are allowed.
5. Excavation is allowed with authorization.
6. A person may conduct research and monitoring activities, including taking actions covered by the EPBC Act ss.354 and 354A and Part 13 of the EPBC Act in accordance with and subject to authorisation and applicable prescriptions as described in the management plan.
