Purpose
To protect the humpback whale breeding area, sea turtle spawning grounds, and protect the underwater landscape focused on the coral reef ecosystem with various coral reef ecosystems, reef-building corals, soft corals, seaweeds, fish, etc. in sea areas shallower than 30 meters.
Species of Concern: green sea turtle, hawksbill turtle, humpback whale, minke whale, sperm whale, rough-toothed whale, bottlenose dolphin, false killer whale, coral reef, roseate tern, black-naped tern, little tern
Regulations Summary
Restrictions
Actions that may affect the maintenance of the landscape in the marine park area may be prohibited (with exceptions – see section on permitted activities).
Allowed
The following acts are permitted:
1. Acts permitted by the Minister of Environment or prefectural governor;
2. Acts performed as an emergency measure necessary during a natural disaster;
3. Acts performed as an execution of a park operation;
4. Acts performed as a certified ecosystem maintenance or restoration, etc.;
5. Regular management and simple acts which are specified by the ordinance of the Ministry of the Environment.
The following acts requires notification to the Minister of the Environment:
1.Build, remodel, or expand structures;
2. Dig minerals or collect earth or stone;
3. Post, install, or display advertisements or other similar items on structures, etc.;
4. Within the area designated by the Minister of the Environment, to capture, kill, injure, take, or damage designated tropical fish, coral, seaweed, and other plants and animals;
5. Change the shape of the seabed;
6. Moor objects;
7. Discharge sewage or wastewater by installing a drainage facility;
8. Use of a power vessel within the area and period of time designated by the Minister of the Environment;
9. Acts specified by government ordinance that may affect maintenance of the marine park area’s landscape
