Purpose

To protect Palau's greatest asset, its waters, and to further Palau's constitutional requirement to take positive action to attain and implement the policy of conservation of a beautiful, healthful and resourceful natural environment. Foreign fishing vessels are depleting Palau's fish stocks and polluting Palau's waters with discharge. Designating 80% of Palau's EEZ as protected will allow fish stocks and the marine environment to recover.

Species of Concern: tuna, hawksbill sea turtle, leatherback sea turtle, sei whale, blue whale, green sea turtle, whale shark, shortfin mako shark
