Restrictions
In addition to the follopwing restrictions, other fishing restrictions, including bag limits, seasons, and size restrictions apply:
- No person shall use, permit to be used, or attempt to use any explosive, fire-arm, poison or other noxious substance for the purpose of killing, stunning, disabling or catching fish, or of in any way rendering fish to be caught more easily; or carry or have in his or her possession or control any explosive, fire-arm, poison or other noxious substance for any of the purposes.
- Except on the authority of a permit issued by the Minister: no vessel shall be used for or to assist in any driftnet fishing activities; no person shall engage or assist in any driftnet fishing activities; and no person on board a local fishing vessel or a foreign fishing vessel in respect of which a foreign fishing vessel licence has been issued, shall be in possession of a driftnet or part thereof.
- Gear on board any foreign fishing vessel for which a foreign fishing vessel licence has not been issued shall be stowed in the prescribed manner while the vessel is within South African waters.
