Restrictions
Libya has sovereign rights for the purpose of exploring and exploiting, conserving and managing the natural resources, whether living or non-living, of these waters. The following restrictions apply:
- All species of turtles and tortoises are protected. Any use of these species or thier products (skin, eggs, flesh) is banned.
- Dumping of oils and other pollutants from vessels into the sea and discharge of land-based sewage and industrial water into the marine environment is prohibited.
- It is prohibited to fish using explosives, toxic substances, drugs, substances harmful to public health, the growth or reproduction of marine organisms, or by any other means that harm marine creatures without discrimination.
- Dredging for sponges is prohibited.
- all fishing activities, foreign or domestic, must be licensed and authorized. It is prohibited to fish in marinas, ports and shipping lanes leading to them.
- It is prohibited to harm the seaweeds and plants in which marine organisms lay eggs.
