Purpose

The conservation of rare or threatened species, endemic species of the Mediterranean, and species whose distribution in the Mediterranean is rare or which find their distribution limit in Zembra. Conservation of habitats, including Posidonia oceanica meadows, coralligenous, sessile communities in semi-obscure caves, caves, potential habitat for the monk seal. And the preservation of the peace and quiet of seabird colonies and roosts.

Species of Concern: monk seal, short-beaked common dolphin, shearwaters, Audouin's gull, gray shearwater, crested cormorant

Regulations Summary

Restrictions

The following is prohibited throughout the park:
1. The discharge or discharge of liquid, solid or gaseous waste or other substances liable to directly or indirectly affect the integrity of the protected area.
2. The introduction of weapons, explosives and any other destructive means of fishing or hunting as well as toxic or polluting substances.
3. Intentional disturbance or activities that may cause disturbance to animals, particularly during periods of breeding, wintering, juvenile dependence and migration.
4. The introduction of exotic or genetically modified species.
5. Any exploration activity or activity involving a modification of the configuration of the seabed or its subsoil.
6. Industrial and aquaculture activities.
7. The transit of vessels carrying goods likely to directly or indirectly affect the integrity of the protected area.
8. Trolling net fishing.
9. All prohibited activities of a general nature on the coasts, natural spaces or the marine environment in Tunisia.

Allowed

Non-fishing activities conducted by the competent services of National Defense are exempt.
