Purpose
To protect the habitats that support a diverse range of water birds throughout the year, and the species listed in Annex I of the Council Directive 79/409/EEC. There are large areas of mudflat, which have high densities of invertebrates providing a good food source for wading birds.
Species of Concern: avocet, little tern, dunlin, grey plover, red knot, northern pintail, redshank, common ringed plover, shelduck

It is prohibited to take or disturb cockles without a permit.
Additional measures may apply. Refer to the Kent and Essex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority Byelaws.
Allowed
Other types of fishing may be permitted in accordance with applicable regulations.
