To claim sovereign rights and exclusive fishery management authority over all fish, and all Continental Shelf fishery resources. Under the international convention on the Law of the Sea, every nation's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) extends from to the 200 nautical mile line.

Restrictions
Cyprus has sovereign rights for the purpose of exploring and exploiting, conserving and managing the natural resources, whether living or non-living, of these waters. Fishing restrictions, such as bag limits, seasons, and size restrictions apply. Prohibitions on fishing include:
- catching, sailing or fishing or attempting to catch, sail or fish with the use of dynamite or other explosives or with any harmful or poisonous substance;
- possessing dynamite or any other explosive or harmful or poisonous substance that a court could determine is intended to be used for fishing;
- selling, exhibiting for sale, distributing, or transporting fish caught with dynamite or other explosives or with any harmful or poisonous substance;
- catching or killing, or attempting to catch or kill fish while using spear guns in conjunction with underwater breathing apparatus.
