Purpose

To protect diversity of species and habitats in their favourable condition. Protection includes the application of scientific knowledge, as well as monitoring of human influence to the environment in order to avoid or reduce unfavourable impacts on species and habitats. To protect one of the largest natural harbours on the eastern coast of the Adriatic.

Species of Concern: bottlenose dolphin, painted comber, salema, two-banded sea bream, damselfish, mediterranean rainbow wrasse, sea horse, european eel, octopus

Regulations Summary

Restrictions

1. Hunting and the use of triple stationary nets are prohibited during the tourist season from May 15th to September 10th.
2. In the Nature Park, sports fishing is prohibited.
3. In the Fishing Ban Subzone, Subzone 1A, and Subzone 1B, all categories of fishing are completely prohibited for the protection of habitats and species.
4. To conduct recreational fishing in the Nature Park, a special permit issued by the Institution is required.
5. The use of all fishing gear other than those listed in the Allowed section is prohibited, as well as the use of fish bait or other marine organism attractants.
6. Catching cephalopods with a longline with a hook using artificial light is prohibited from March 1st to September 30th.
7. A vessel moving or floating while conducting recreational fishing must not be closer than 100 meters from the line of Subzone 1A, Subzone 1B, the Fishing Ban Zone, and the Diving Activity Subzone during the period when fishing is prohibited in the Diving Activity Subzone.
8. Holders of the fishing right in the Nature Park who possess a special permit for recreational fishing must keep records of the conducted fishing, by species, quantity, and fishing area, and the used fishing gear and their quantity.
9. Any form of mariculture in the entire Nature Park area is prohibited, except for non-commercial mariculture for contributing to ecological balance and sustainable marine ecosystem management in the Marine Biodiversity Conservation Subzone.
10. It is prohibited to create access to the coast, construct and fill the coast, construct marinas, moorings, and other types of docks, except in designated places according to spatial planning documentation with an appropriate act approving the construction.
11. In Subzone 1A, navigation, mooring, and movement of visitors are prohibited.
12. Swimming is prohibited in unmarked places.
13. Anchoring is prohibited, except in situations necessary for the protection of human lives and safety in accordance with a special regulation.
14. Individual diving, i.e., diving outside organized groups, is prohibited.
15. The deliberate picking, cutting, felling, collecting, or destruction of strictly protected individual wild plants, fungi, lichens, and algae from nature in their natural distribution area is prohibited.
16. The following activities with animals in nature are prohibited in the Nature Park:
- Feeding, chasing, injuring, catching, or killing,
- Deliberate disturbance,
- Destroying or taking eggs, even if empty, and keeping them,
- Destroying, damaging, or removing their developmental forms, nests, or lairs,
- Damaging or destroying their breeding or resting areas.
17. Dumping all types of waste outside designated and marked places is strictly prohibited.
18. Taking minerals and/or fossils from nature is prohibited.
19. Extracting sand, gravel, stone, humus, clay, etc., is strictly prohibited.
20. During fishing with spears, it is prohibited to use a vessel propelled by an engine or vessels with built-in glass bottoms or other devices that allow viewing underwater.

Allowed

1. Commercial and small-scale coastal fishing and recreational fishing are allowed in accordance with special regulations governing marine fisheries.
2. An angler, the holder of a special permit, may conduct recreational fishing with the following quantities of fishing gear and equipment:
- a handline, up to two (2) pieces
- a trolling line, up to two (2) pieces
- a longline with a hook for catching cephalopods, up to two (2) pieces
3. Holders of a special permit for recreational fishing issued to former holders of valid licenses for small-scale coastal fishing who had their licenses revoked at their request, persons who had valid permits for small-scale fishing but requested to give up switching to small-scale coastal fishing, and persons who had valid permits for small-scale fishing and applied for switching to small-scale coastal fishing but are not on the list of participants in small-scale coastal fishing for a given calendar year, may fish with:
- spears with or without the use of artificial light, up to one (1) piece
- fish traps, up to three (3) pieces
- stationary longlines, one or more with a total of up to 100 hooks
- using artificial light with technical characteristics prescribed in Paragraph 3 of this Article.
4. In recreational fishing, it is allowed to catch and collect up to three (3) kilograms of fish and other marine organisms per day, and the allowed daily catch quantity may be exceeded by the weight of one fish or other marine organism that exceeds the allowed three (3) kilograms.
5. Construction in the Nature Park is conducted in accordance with spatial planning documentation and special regulations governing spatial planning and construction.
6. In Subzone 1B, only vessel transit without stopping is allowed, except for stopping vessels for diving visits with prior approval from the Institution.
7. Navigation in the Nature Park is allowed with the Institution's approval.
8. Visiting the Nature Park is allowed for everyone under equal conditions in accordance with the Act and this Regulation. Visitors may enter the Nature Park only at places designated as official entrances. Official entrances to the Nature Park are:
- Dolac Land Entrance
- Mir Bay Maritime Entrance.
9. Mooring is allowed only in pre-designated and marked places.
10. Diving with diving equipment (hereinafter referred to as diving) is allowed in groups organized by a legal or natural person registered for such activities and holding a permit for organizing diving visits to the Nature Park in accordance with special regulations. Individual diving is only allowed for scientific research purposes with the approval of the competent authority.
