Objetivo
To conserve and protect the pelagic ecosystem and dependent predators in the area around each of the South Sandwich Islands, particularly the highly abundant chinstrap and Adelie penguins.
Resumo dos regulamentos
Restrições
The following activities are prohibited:
(a) bottom trawling; and
(b) pelagic fishing in the pelagic closed area; and
(c) fishing for Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) from 1 October – 30 April.
Autorizada
The restrictions do not apply to:
(a) anything carried out in accordance with a permit granted by the Commissioner; or
(b) anything done
- in the interests of the prevention or detection of crime;
- for securing public health; or
- for the purpose of saving human life, securing the safety of any vessel of significant value or of preventing damage to any vessel or cargo (in either case of significant value) from any danger which could not have been foreseen or avoided.
