This area is managed primarily for the absolute protection of wild resources and the preservation of natural environments in an undisturbed state. Its fundamental objectives are to maintain ecological functions and preserve species diversity to safeguard endangered or vulnerable marine life. To achieve these goals, the reserve is dedicated to scientific research, and all fishing activities are strictly prohibited.

Fishing is prohibited within the strict nature reserve.

Any access to the strict nature reserve is subject to authorization of the President of French Polynesia. This authorization can be subordinated to the demonstration of the harmlessness of the passage for the environments or to the respect of particular prescriptions limiting the impact on the ecosystems. This authorization can be permanent for operators of public service, research organisms or passage in the navigation corridors defined by the competent authority.
