The protection of an unwooded Baltic Sea island in the outer Wismar Bay with nationally important breeding grounds of coastal bird species as well as a resting place for wadingbirds and waterfowl. The island is important for scientific documentation of the development of the island and its fauna.

Regulations Summary
Apribojimai
Within the protected area, the following is prohibited:
a) damaging, uprooting, digging up plants, or picking, cutting, or tearing off parts of them,
b) stalking wild animals – including those that can be hunted –, deliberately disturbing them, killing them, installing other suitable devices, catching or killing them, or removing or damaging pupae, larvae, eggs, nests, and other breeding and living sites of such animals, without prejudice to legitimate defensive measures against insects that are a nuisance to cultivation or forestry or that are blood-sucking,
c) introducing plants or animals,
d) entering the island, driving on it, camping there, lighting fires, depositing waste, or otherwise deface the area,
e) mining mineral resources, draining groundwater, erecting structures, or making other changes,
f) creating images or Plaques shall be posted.
Leidžiama
The following shall remain unaffected:
a) grazing on the fenced area of the island by the municipality of Insel Poel or its tenants,
b) the collection of eggs to strengthen the population of certain bird species, subject to approval by the lower nature conservation authority.
(2) In special cases, exceptions to the regulations may be approved by the higher nature conservation authority – insofar as huntable animals are concerned, by the district gamekeeper.
