Propósito

To protect the volcanic area of Arinaga and its geomorphological elements on the southeast coast of Gran Canaria. Natura site ES7010049 is within this site.

Species of Concern: common tern, little ringed plover, yellow-legged gull, little egret

Regulations Summary

Restricciones

The following activities are prohibited:
- All those that are incompatible with the purpose of protecting the Natural Area and the conservation objectives of the Arinaga Natural Monument, as provided for in these Conservation Rules.
- The alteration of the natural conditions of the Protected Area and its resources.
- The alteration, by any means, of the natural flow of sand present in the Monument, as well as the coastal dynamics of its coasts.
- The abandonment, dumping or uncontrolled disposal of waste, as provided for in Law 1/1999, of January 29, on Waste in the Canary Islands.
- Any actions, works and infrastructure that may hinder water flow and transform the runoff network are prohibited.
- Activities that may lead to the destruction or irreversible deterioration of wildlife or disturbance of its habitat.
- The capture of animals, both vertebrates and invertebrates, collecting their eggs or offspring, causing any type of damage to them or disturbing their habitat, except for reasons of management or development of authorized research projects.
- Hunting activities.
- The destruction, mutilation, cutting, burning or uprooting as well as the collection of biological material belonging to some of the plant species included in the Catalogues of Endangered Species.
- The introduction and repopulation with exotic species of fauna and flora.
- Overflight by light aircraft, helicopter or any other device with or without an engine, except for rescue reasons, firefighting operations, mapping, educational filming, management tasks or regular flights that are required for technical reasons.
- The carrying out of actions that involve the alteration or destruction of elements of archaeological or ethnographic interest or the degradation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Natural Monument.
- The release of domestic species, as well as the abandonment of animals.
- Earthworks and mining extraction activities, as well as the collection of rocks and minerals, except for scientific or management purposes, duly authorized.
- Shellfish gathering.

The following activities are allowed or may be authorized:
- Those uses that, under certain conditions, can be tolerated by the natural environment without any appreciable deterioration of its values and that are contemplated or not by these Conservation Standards are considered to be authorizable uses. In any case, the latter must not be contrary to the purpose of protecting the Protected Natural Area, without prejudice to the need to have a compatibility report in the terms provided for in article 63.5 of the Revised Text.
- Scientific research activities, according to the specific conditions of these Conservation Standards.
- The reintroduction of fauna or flora species, according to the specific conditions of these Conservation Standards.
- The capture or collection of specimens of wild fauna and flora or rocks and minerals for scientific research or management purposes, including possible control or eradication programs for exotic species.
- The rehabilitation and restoration of buildings and services that, linked to the conditions of the Natural Area and previously declared of public utility or social interest, justify the need to be located on this type of land.
- The excavation, collection and manipulation of elements of archaeological, ethnographic or any other cultural interest, for research or educational purposes.
- Those uses not included among those prohibited or authorisable and which characterise the purpose of a certain area of the territory shall be considered permitted, as well as those actions promoted by the management and administration body of the Arinaga Natural Monument, in application of the Regulations themselves. The list of permitted uses shall include those that deserve to be highlighted due to their importance or intensity and shall not include, regardless of their nature as permitted uses, those that do not require works or installations of any kind and are not subject to authorisation by other administrative bodies.
